Chelsea legend Joe Cole has weighed in on the Blues’ ongoing goalkeeping struggles, suggesting that Nottingham Forest shot-stopper, Matz Sels, could be the solution to the club’s inconsistency between the posts.

Speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Cole criticized Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation, pointing out that despite having multiple goalkeepers on their books, the club still lacks a clear No.1.

“It’s something systemically wrong because you can’t have nine goalkeepers on your books and not know which one is your number one,” Cole stated.

Since Robert Sanchez was dropped due to costly errors, Filip Jorgensen has struggled to impress, especially after Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Brighton and their 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

Cole believes Matz Sels, Forest’s 32-year-old goalkeeper, is the best option Chelsea should consider.

“Do you know who I think is one of the best goalkeepers in the league at the moment? Sels from Forest. Mate, I’m telling you. Watch him play. Assured, makes saves,” Cole added.

The former Blues winger questioned Chelsea’s scouting process, urging the club to identify and sign the right goalkeeper rather than continuously cycling through options.

With Chelsea’s defensive issues mounting, Cole’s suggestion adds to the ongoing debate about the club’s long-term solution in goal.
