The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death in the Ijedodo, Isheri-Osun area of Lagos State.
According to the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the tragic incident occurred on Friday at about 8:00 pm and was reported by a concerned neighbor who witnessed the attack.
“The neighbor said he saw the suspect assaulting his girlfriend inside his room for reasons yet to be determined. Minutes later, the suspect screamed for help, and when the neighbor rushed in, he found the victim lying unconscious on the bed, with visible marks of violence on her body,” Hundeyin stated.
The victim was rushed to a hospital in Ijegun, where doctors confirmed her dead.
Police operatives were immediately dispatched to secure the crime scene, inspect the hospital, and photograph the victim. The body has been deposited at a morgue in Yaba for autopsy, while the suspect remains in police custody pending further investigations.
The incident has reignited calls for stronger action against domestic violence, with many social advocates demanding swift prosecution of the suspect to serve as a deterrent.
Lagos authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway, with legal proceedings set to follow.
