The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of dancer Idowu Smart Emmanuel, popularly known as Lil Smart, following a petition filed by singer Naira Marley. Lil Smart was apprehended on January 28, 2025, at his residence in Megamound Estate, Ajah, Lagos, on charges of criminal defamation, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and spreading falsehoods.
In December 2024, Lil Smart had taken to Instagram, alleging that Naira Marley and fellow artist Zinoleesky had attempted to kidnap him. He further accused Naira Marley of bribing Lagos police officers and engaging in credit card fraud. Upon investigation, Lil Smart admitted in writing that these allegations were fabricated and lacked evidence.
The police have emphasized the seriousness of making unfounded accusations, noting that such actions can undermine public trust in the justice system. This incident serves as a reminder of the legal consequences associated with spreading false information and defaming individuals without substantiated evidence.
