Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has issued a strong warning to singles, urging them to conduct thorough background checks before getting married.
His advice comes amid widespread discussions about 2Face and Annie Idibia’s divorce, which has sparked debates about marriage, commitment, and relationship struggles.
Agu’s Advice: Marriage Shouldn’t Lead to Regret or Death
In a now-viral Instagram video, Agu cautioned against peer pressure, societal expectations, and desperation to marry, stating that these factors often lead to tragic outcomes.
“Marriage is not a do-or-die affair. If you have an abusive partner or are in a toxic relationship, run for your life!” Agu advised.
He went further to say that staying in a harmful marriage out of fear or for financial security could be a fatal mistake:
“Divorce is better than rest in peace. Many have stayed in toxic relationships saying, ‘I want to stay for my children’ or ‘he is rich’. That was how a lady was burnt to death by her husband. Now, who will take care of the kids? The man that killed her?”

Agu also warned singles to avoid rushing into marriage based on physical attraction or pressure from peers, emphasizing that proper background checks are crucial to avoid life-threatening mistakes.
“She is beautiful, he is handsome, so you want to marry at all costs? See you, see death!” he warned.
