Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed that she was not informed about her husband’s burial and only learned about it through social media.
Mohbad, a rising star in Nigeria’s Afrobeats scene, died on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances. Less than 24 hours after his death, his father, Joseph Aloba, hurriedly buried him in Ikorodu, Lagos State, despite pleas from family and friends to delay the funeral.
‘His Father Wanted to Bury Him the Night He Died’
Speaking in a recent interview, Omowunmi disclosed that it took intervention from close relatives and friends to stop her father-in-law from burying Mohbad on the same night of his passing.
“There’s a nurse involved in this case. He [Mohbad] reacted to an injection. The night my husband died, my father-in-law came to the house, and the nurse narrated everything that happened. Mohbad’s manager wanted the nurse arrested, but my father-in-law asked us to let her go,” she stated.
She further claimed that despite repeated pleas, her father-in-law went ahead with the burial without informing her. “Even the day they wanted to bury him, I got to know online,” she said.
Alleged Attempt to Kidnap Mohbad’s Son
Omowunmi also made shocking allegations that on the day of Mohbad’s burial, her father-in-law, alongside a certain woman, attempted to kidnap her son, Liam.
Mohbad’s Exhumation & Delayed Autopsy Results
Due to growing suspicions surrounding his death, Mohbad’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy, which authorities have yet to release.
Omowunmi, still grieving, expressed her frustration, saying:
“It still feels like my husband is alive. He is in Yaba morgue. He has not been buried. So sad. He has been ‘pieced’ twice.”
Meanwhile, Joseph Aloba insists Mohbad will not be reburied until controversies surrounding his death are resolved.
