Tragedy struck in the early hours of Monday, February 24, 2025, as a Toyota bus with registration number UYY165ZY crashed into a stationary truck (DKA244XC) around Ayetoro on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, killing nine people and leaving three others critically injured.

The accident, which occurred at approximately 5:30 am, was attributed to excessive speed and driver fatigue, leading to loss of control before the bus violently rammed into the parked truck.

Confirming the incident, Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), stated that the crash involved 13 occupants—10 males and three females.

The Ogun State Sector Commander expressed frustration over drivers’ failure to adhere to speed limits and rest breaks, emphasizing that the accident could have been prevented if the driver had observed the mandatory 15-minute rest after every four-hour journey.

Authorities have urged relatives of the deceased to visit the Mowe Unit Command for further information.

This accident underscores the growing concerns over reckless driving on Nigeria’s highways, with calls for stricter enforcement of speed regulations and better monitoring of driver fatigue.
