A 50-year-old farmer, Alfa Mustapha, has been found dead with bullet wounds on his farm in Ageri Village, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, triggering a full-scale police investigation.

The tragic discovery was made on Saturday, February 22, 2025, after Mustapha failed to return home from his farm as expected. Concerned about his whereabouts, a local resident went in search of him and found his lifeless body lying face up, with his cutlass beside him.

Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that officers from the Olodo Outstation responded to the report made by Moshood Mustapha, the Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, who raised the alarm over the farmer’s disappearance.

Initial police examination at the scene was hindered by poor visibility due to heavy rainfall, but further medical assessment at the Odeda General Hospital confirmed that Mustapha had been shot at close range, with bullet pellets found in his body.

In response, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered an intensive investigation to track down the perpetrator(s), vowing that no stone would be left unturned in delivering justice.

The incident has heightened security concerns in Ogun’s rural farming communities, with many calling for greater protection of farmers from rising violence in remote areas.
