The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed claims by controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, that he is a mentally unstable individual receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
Declaring the singer a wanted man, the police insisted that he must surrender himself to the authorities to face the law over his alleged assault on Ogun State government officials.
Portable, who is accused of leading a violent attack on three officials from the state’s Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development at Odogwu Bar in Ota, had claimed in a viral video that he is mentally ill and receiving medical care at Aro Psychiatric Hospital. He further alleged that he was being set up due to his political affiliations.
However, reacting to the singer’s claims, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, maintained that Portable’s medical status is irrelevant to the case at hand.
“He is a wanted man and must come and submit himself. If he has proof of mental illness, he should present it to the authorities. But as of now, he is wanted for a criminal offense and must face the consequences of his actions,” Odutola stated.
The police further revealed that nine of Portable’s alleged accomplices had already been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the singer.
The controversial musician had earlier pleaded for leniency from the Ogun State Government, claiming he was under “spiritual attack” and suffering from various ailments.
Despite his pleas, the police have maintained their stance, urging him to turn himself in rather than evade arrest.
