Ogun State Police have arrested 31-year-old Olarewaju Idris, accused of serially assaulting female students from Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun. Idris was apprehended on Saturday at a well-known hotel in Erinwo, Ijebu-Ode, following a meticulous investigation.

According to police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, Idris allegedly targeted an 18-year-old student from the Library and Information Department. After meeting her at a lounge in Ijebu-Ode, he reportedly threatened her with a knife, led her to a secluded area, and assaulted her. The survivor reported the incident to the police at approximately 6:00 am, detailing the harrowing experience.

Further investigations revealed that Idris had previously assaulted another TASUED student, a 300-level undergraduate. He allegedly lured her onto a motorcycle, took her to Magun Hotel in Ijebu-Ode, and raped her, leaving her with severe injuries. Both survivors have received medical attention at Ijebu-Ode State Hospital.

This arrest follows a series of alarming incidents targeting TASUED students. In October 2023, four female students were reportedly raped during an armed robbery at their off-campus residence. The Ogun State government responded by pledging enhanced security measures and support for the victims.

The Ogun State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and safeguarding the community. Authorities urge students and residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.
