Global pop icon Shakira has been hospitalized in Peru after suffering an abdominal issue, forcing her to cancel her highly anticipated concert in Lima.
The Colombian singer, who arrived in the country on Saturday for her first performance in over a decade, revealed her condition in an emotional social media post on Sunday.
“I’m sorry to let you all know that last night I had to go to the emergency room for an abdominal issue and I’m currently hospitalized. The doctors taking care of me have let me know that I’m not well enough to perform tonight,” Shakira wrote.
Videos circulating online show hundreds of excited fans welcoming her at the airport, making her sudden hospitalization a shock to many.
The Hips Don’t Lie singer, who kicked off her tour last week in Brazil, remains hopeful about recovering in time for her next scheduled performance in Lima on Monday. “I hope to be better by tomorrow and that they release me from hospital as soon as possible to be able to put on the show that I’ve prepared for you all,” she assured her fans.
Shakira, known for hit tracks like La Tortura and her explosive 2023 diss track against ex-partner Gerard Piqué, remains one of the most influential Latin artists to break into the global mainstream.
Her hospitalization has sparked widespread concern among fans and music lovers, as many await updates on her condition and the fate of her ongoing tour.
