A 200-level student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State, has reportedly taken his own life due to severe financial hardship, sending shockwaves through the university community.

The deceased, a Mass Communication student with an impressive 4.5 CGPA, was said to have struggled financially since last year, especially after the death of his father, leaving his retired mother as his sole provider.

The tragedy occurred over the weekend at his private residence in Oke-Odo, Tanke, Ilorin, where he consumed a poisonous substance while his roommate was away for lectures. A suicide note found at the scene detailed his struggles and inability to cope with his situation.

Despite friends rallying to support him by paying his tuition and providing food, his financial burdens persisted, ultimately leading to his devastating decision.

A senior university official confirmed the incident, describing it as deeply shocking, adding that the entire school community is in mourning.
