A devastating accident on Ondo Road in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State has resulted in the death of a middle-aged man, known locally as ‘Daddy Ese’. The incident occurred at Opa Junction near Best Solution Polytechnic, where a speeding truck collided with a commercial motorcycle carrying the deceased. The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended after a pursuit by bystanders and military personnel. ‘Daddy Ese’ was a well-known furniture trader at the plank market on Agagu Road in Akure.
In response to the tragedy, Monday Desmond, Chairman of the Adebowale branch of commercial motorcyclists, called on authorities to dualize the road, citing its history of fatal accidents. Samuel Ibitoye, Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, urged road users to exercise caution, especially on narrow roads, and warned that violators would face legal consequences.
