Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has expressed shock over the skyrocketing price of eggs in Nigeria, questioning whether the chickens laying them were imported.

In a viral video, the award-winning actress lamented the steep rise in food prices, noting that a crate of eggs now sells for ₦6,000, a sharp contrast to the ₦900 she once bought it for.

“₦6,000 for a crate of eggs? The fowl wey lay this egg, na abroad dem bring am from?” she said in disbelief.

Her reaction mirrors the frustrations of many Nigerians, as vendors attribute the rising cost of eggs and other food items to the fluctuating exchange rate and high production costs.

The surge in egg prices has been linked to inflation, the rising cost of poultry feed, fuel prices, and economic instability, making it difficult for many households to afford basic food items.

Mercy Johnson’s lament has since sparked discussions on the country’s economic realities, with many Nigerians sharing their own struggles with the soaring cost of living.
