Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has praised defenders Ola Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel despite Nigeria’s frustrating 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
Victor Osimhen’s 74th-minute header seemed to have sealed victory for Nigeria, but a late strike from Tawanda Chirewa ensured Zimbabwe snatched a crucial point. The result leaves the Super Eagles struggling in Group C, sitting in fourth place with seven points.
Chelle, speaking after the match, commended Aina and Osayi-Samuel for their solid performances. “Ola played well both on the right and left sides, and Bright too. But it was difficult at the end,” he admitted.
The draw adds more pressure on the Super Eagles as they fight for a place in the 2026 World Cup, with tougher fixtures ahead.
