A massive fire erupted at Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday night, causing widespread destruction as traders watched helplessly while their goods were consumed by flames.
The General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services, Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident, stating that firefighters were actively working to contain the blaze.
“Our men are currently working at Aleshinloye Market,” Akinyinka said, promising to provide further updates as investigations into the cause of the fire unfold.
As of the time of this report, the cause of the inferno remains unknown, but preliminary estimates suggest that property worth millions of naira has been lost.
Eyewitness videos circulating on social media show thick smoke billowing from the popular market as traders scramble to salvage what they can. Many affected shop owners have called for urgent government intervention and improved fire safety measures to prevent future disasters.
