A chilling case of domestic violence has shaken Bauchi State after 28-year-old Fatima Mohammed allegedly strangled her 20-year-old co-wife, Hajara Isa, before attempting to destroy evidence by setting the body on fire. The horrifying incident, which occurred on February 28, 2025, in their matrimonial home, was reported to the police on March 3 by the victim’s husband, Sale Isa, of Anguwan Sarakuna, Bauchi.

Following swift intervention by the Bauchi State Police Command, detectives from C Division Police Headquarters launched an investigation under the directive of Commissioner of Police Auwal Musa Muhammad. According to a statement by Police Spokesman CSP Ahmed Wakili, preliminary findings led to the arrest of Fatima Mohammed, who reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Investigators revealed that the suspect allegedly poured boiling water on Hajara’s body before using a melted Bagco sack to burn the remains in a bid to cover her tracks. The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a deeper probe, including forensic analysis to uncover the full circumstances of the gruesome act.
