Chaos and despair hit New GRA, Gombe, as a raging fire tore through three homes on Wednesday, destroying properties worth millions of naira and leaving families stranded.
Shocked residents said they had no time to salvage their belongings before the flames consumed everything. Malama Sakina, one of the victims, broke down in tears, saying, “We lost everything. No one came to help us when the fire started. We need urgent support from the government and humanitarian groups to rebuild our lives.”
Another victim, Yakubu Baba Gombe, expressed frustration over the delayed arrival of firefighters. “By the time they got here, there was nothing left to save.”
Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the fire, but affected families are now without shelter, food, or basic necessities. The community is calling for a thorough investigation and improved emergency response to prevent similar tragedies.
The state fire service has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
