Tension erupted in the Senate as former Bayelsa Governor and Senator, Seriake Dickson, confronted Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the delay in debating the controversial state of emergency declared in Rivers State.
During a heated session on Tuesday, Dickson strongly objected to Akpabio’s move to stall discussions, insisting that the Senate must urgently address the issue. “You cannot tell me to shut up! This is a matter of national importance,” he fired back at Akpabio, who attempted to cut him off.
The clash comes amid growing concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s decision to impose emergency rule in Rivers, following the escalating political conflict between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Critics argue that the move is politically motivated, while supporters claim it’s necessary to prevent further instability.
With the opposition mounting pressure, the Senate is expected to revisit the debate, as public outrage over the decision continues to build.
