Popular TikTok influencer Murja Ibrahim Kunya has been re-arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Kano for allegedly spraying and mutilating Naira notes, violating Nigeria’s financial laws. The latest arrest comes after she reportedly jumped bail following her initial apprehension in January 2025.

Murja was first arrested for spraying Naira at social events, an act outlawed under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, which criminalizes currency abuse. She was granted administrative bail but failed to appear in court, prompting the EFCC to intensify its search for her.

On Sunday, March 16, 2025, EFCC operatives tracked her down and arrested her at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano. Sources within the commission confirmed that she remains in custody and will face prosecution.

Murja is not the only social media influencer facing legal trouble over Naira abuse. The EFCC has also recently arrested TikTok personalities Al’amin G-Fresh and Ashir Idris on similar charges as the agency strengthens its crackdown on currency violations.

The EFCC has repeatedly warned Nigerians, especially celebrities and social media influencers, against mutilating or spraying the Naira at public gatherings. The commission has vowed to prosecute offenders to protect the integrity of the national currency.
