A deadly gas tanker explosion on Otedola Bridge, Lagos, has claimed the lives of newlyweds Dozie and Joan Okoye, just weeks after their wedding on February 22, 2025.
The tragic incident happened around 8:08 p.m. on March 11 when a 30-tonne gas tanker overturned and exploded, setting several cars and buildings on fire.
Rescue teams later identified the couple’s charred remains through their car’s registration number. The blast also killed a mechanic, Rotimi Adeleye, and destroyed a church and a dental clinic nearby.

This disaster has once again raised concerns about safety on Nigerian highways, especially on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
