A case of domestic violence has rocked Baura Village in Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State, where a 33-year-old man, Anas Yakubu, allegedly bludgeoned his sister-in-law, Fatima Adamu, to death with a pestle following a heated altercation.
The tragic incident unfolded around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Witnesses say an argument erupted between Yakubu and Adamu before he allegedly struck her on the head with the wooden kitchen tool, leaving her with fatal injuries.
Adamu, 35, was rushed to Albasu General Hospital by neighbors, but doctors confirmed her dead on arrival. The Kano State Police Command swiftly responded, arresting Yakubu at the scene. Security sources indicate the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.
Confirming the arrest, a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X (formerly Twitter) detailed the incident, sparking widespread outrage. The police have since handed over the victim’s body to her family for burial according to Islamic rites.
Authorities are yet to disclose the motive behind the violent attack, but local sources suggest long-standing family tensions may have escalated into the deadly confrontation. Investigations are ongoing, with the police expected to charge Yakubu in court once their inquiry is concluded.
This gruesome killing has reignited conversations on domestic violence and family disputes turning fatal in Nigeria, with many calling for stricter laws and enforcement to prevent such tragedies.
