Seven suspects accused of the gruesome murder of Mojisola Awesu, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa, have pleaded not guilty in court. Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, adjourned the case to March 12, 2025, for hearing, following arguments from the defense counsel over unpreparedness.
The prosecution, led by State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Idowu Ayoola Akande, urged the court to proceed with the trial, but the defense insisted they were not ready, as the previous court session was meant for arraignment, not hearing.
Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole were identified as the prime suspects, accused of luring Mojisola Awesu to Ilorin on August 9, 2024, before allegedly murdering her and dumping her corpse at a dumpsite in Warah community.
Further investigations implicated Adebayo’s parents, Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, who were charged with conspiracy and tampering with evidence, offenses punishable under the Penal Code Law of Kwara State (2006). Additionally, three other suspects—Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus—were accused of conspiring to dispose of the victim’s body, violating the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law (2018).
The court previously ordered the suspects to be remanded in a correctional facility due to the absence of their legal representation. With the trial set to resume on March 12, 2025, the public awaits justice for the slain student, whose murder sent shockwaves across the state.
