Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has initiated a ₦1.1 billion defamation lawsuit against social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), alleging that his online statements have tarnished her reputation. In response, VDM’s legal representative, Deji Adeyanju, has publicly dismissed the lawsuit, labeling it “a complete joke.”
The legal dispute centers on VDM’s social media posts from February 2025, where he accused Chinwo of breaching her contract with her former record label, EeZee Conceptz, and misappropriating $345,000. Chinwo’s legal team contends that these allegations are “libellous, malicious, and damaging” to her public image.
On March 13, 2025, a Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, issued a bench warrant for VDM’s arrest after he failed to appear in court to address the defamation charges. VDM, currently abroad, has challenged authorities to arrest him upon his return to Nigeria, asserting his familiarity with such legal confrontations.
Adeyanju, addressing the lawsuit’s financial demands, questioned the basis for the ₦1.1 billion claim, suggesting that the legal action lacks seriousness. He refrained from discussing specific legal strategies but emphasized his view that the case is without merit.
