In a recent coroner’s inquest at the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe provided a detailed account of the events leading to the untimely death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Ogedengbe testified that on September 12, 2023, she was contacted by Ayobami Sodiq, alias ‘Spending’, to administer a tetanus injection to Mohbad, who had sustained a hand injury suspected to contain glass fragments. Upon arrival at the singer’s Lekki residence around 2:30 p.m., she observed swelling on his right hand. After confirming Mohbad’s history of peptic ulcer disease, she opted for paracetamol over diclofenac to manage his pain. She administered 4ml of paracetamol diluted with 1ml of water intravenously, followed by a slow injection of 10ml ceftriaxone to address potential bacterial infection.

During the ceftriaxone administration, Mohbad expressed nausea and vomited. He then developed goosebumps, which his wife, Omowunmi, indicated was his typical reaction to injections. In response, Omowunmi attempted to alleviate his symptoms by pouring water over his head. Recognizing the severity of the situation, Ogedengbe and Ayobami sought hydrocortisone and normal saline from a nearby pharmacy. However, upon their return, they found Mohbad convulsing, prompting an urgent transport to the hospital. Due to heavy traffic, they resorted to using a motorcycle to expedite his arrival. Tragically, medical personnel pronounced Mohbad dead upon arrival.
