A tragic road accident claimed the life of an unidentified female pedestrian on Sunday evening after she was knocked down by a reckless motorcyclist along Lafenwa Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The fatal crash, which occurred at approximately 7:00 PM, involved a TVS motorcycle (Ogun GBE 566 VC) ridden by 25-year-old Kabiru Sanni. According to eyewitnesses, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the road when the speeding motorcycle struck her, leaving her with severe head injuries.

Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident, stating that the victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta, where she succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.

“The Ogun State Police Command regrets to report the unfortunate accident involving a reckless motorcyclist and a yet-to-be-identified female pedestrian. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the hospital,” Odutola stated.

The police have since detained the motorcyclist, while the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. The victim’s remains have been deposited at the FMC morgue, pending identification by her family.

Authorities are now urging motorcyclists and other road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to curb rising cases of avoidable road accidents in the state.
