Lookman’s remarkable performances for both club and country have earned him this prestigious accolade. At Atalanta, he delivered a standout season, notably scoring a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, leading his team to a 3-0 victory and securing the title. On the international stage, Lookman was instrumental in Nigeria’s journey to the Africa Cup of Nations final, contributing three goals during the tournament.
This recognition places Lookman among Nigeria’s football legends, as he becomes the seventh Nigerian to receive the African Footballer of the Year award, following in the footsteps of icons like Nwankwo Kanu and Victor Osimhen.
