President Bola Tinubu has approved a tenure extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, pushing her stay in office until December 31, 2026.

The announcement was made on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who highlighted Nandap’s strides in border management, immigration reforms, and national security enhancements.

“Under her leadership, the Nigeria Immigration Service has witnessed significant advancements in its core mandate, with notable improvements in border management, modernisation of immigration processes, and national security measures,” Onanuga’s statement read.

Nandap, who joined the NIS on October 9, 1989, was initially appointed as Comptroller-General on March 1, 2024, with her tenure set to expire on August 31, 2025. The President, however, extended her stay in recognition of her contributions to the agency’s transformation, aligning with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

With this extension, Nandap is expected to spearhead deeper reforms in border security, combatting illegal migration, and enhancing Nigeria’s passport issuance system.
