The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 64-year-old lawyer, Donald Mbamah, for allegedly shooting and killing a 16-year-old student, Paul Victor, in Owerri.

The incident happened on March 17, 2025, at Mbamah’s residence in Area N, World Bank, New Owerri. According to police reports, Victor sustained a gunshot wound to the buttocks under yet-to-be-determined circumstances.

Responding to a distress call, police operatives from New Owerri Division swiftly arrested Mbamah at the scene. The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Umuguma, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries on March 20.

Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed that Mbamah has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further interrogation. Investigators are working to recover the firearm used in the shooting, and crime scene photographs have been taken as evidence.

Authorities have assured the victim’s family and the public that justice will be served. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
