In the early hours of Friday, March 7, 2025, a fatal accident occurred along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State, resulting in one death and injuries to three others. The crash, which took place near the SWAT Office, opposite the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, involved two unregistered trucks—a white Sino truck and a blue Volvo truck.
According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, the incident happened around 4:20 a.m. and was attributed to brake failure and loss of control, leading to a collision between the two trucks.
Out of the nine male adults involved in the crash, one person was killed, three sustained varying degrees of injuries, and five others were unhurt. The injured victims were transported to the State Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, while the deceased’s body was deposited in the General Hospital morgue.
This incident adds to a series of recent accidents on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway. Notably, just days prior, on March 4, 2025, a tragic accident involving a Mazda bus led to the deaths of 16 passengers who were burned beyond recognition.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased and advised motorists to conduct daily vehicle checks before embarking on any journey. He emphasized the importance of regular maintenance and adherence to safety protocols to prevent such tragic occurrences.
