A routine farming activity turned fatal in Bogije Village, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, as a 40-year-old farmer, Abdullahi Rasaki, lost his life after a palm tree collapsed on him.

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 3:30 PM on Sunday, when Rasaki, accompanied by Waheed Abbass, went to the Egbe Semi Jeje area of Oke Sopen to cut palm trees. In an unfortunate turn of events, one of the trees fell on Rasaki, pinning him under its massive weight.

Despite his screams for help, he succumbed to his injuries before medical intervention could save him. Neighbors rushed to remove the fallen tree and transported him to General Hospital, Sagamu, but he was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.

Confirming the incident on Monday, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, revealed that the tragic event was officially reported to the police by a local resident, Gbamila Sunday, at 9:30 PM.

“Investigations suggest the heavy tree struck a vital part of his body, leading to fatal injuries,” Odutola stated. The deceased’s body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Authorities are now urging farmers and individuals involved in tree-felling activities to take strict safety precautions to prevent avoidable fatalities.
