Political tensions in Rivers State have escalated with no clear explanation from key players. Jerry Omotsegunwa, Special Assistant to suspended Governor Sim Fubara on Electronic Media, has challenged the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara to publicly disclose the real cause of their prolonged conflict.

“The FCT minister has not told us anything that led to the crisis, and the governor too has not provided any clarity,” Omotsegunwa stated in a press release, emphasizing that Fubara remains in the dark regarding why Wike turned against him.

This unresolved feud culminated in President Bola Tinubu declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, leading to the suspension of both Governor Fubara and the State House of Assembly members. While former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi attributed the crisis to financial disputes, Omotsegunwa dismissed this as mere speculation.

“This crisis has dragged on for almost two years now, and nobody has told us what the actual problem is,” Omotsegunwa continued. “When talks of impeachment arose, Fubara asked, ‘What is my offence?’ and Wike responded by accusing him of trying to dismantle his political structure. Despite this, the core issues remain unclear.”

Omotsegunwa insists that until both Wike and Fubara offer a transparent explanation, Rivers people and Nigerians at large will remain in the dark about the true cause of the political turmoil that has destabilized the state.
