The unexplained disappearance of Reverend Pastor Eric Akamnonu has left his family in distress, with his wife, Mrs. Chigozie Akamnonu, petitioning both the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, to intervene in uncovering his whereabouts.
Akamnonu, a native of Ndiakunwata-Uno, Arondizuogu, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, went missing on February 24, 2025, after traveling from his base in Aba, Abia State, to inspect land on behalf of his US-based brother, Mazi Cyprian Chukwuemeka Akamnonu. Reports indicate that he met with a land agent, Mazi Ebere Onyenucheya, and later proceeded to meet the landowner, Mr. Umualaoma, but has not been seen or heard from since.
His last known communication was on the morning of February 24, when he spoke with one of his wife’s business clients, informing them that he was in Arondizuogu. Shortly after, his phone became unreachable. Shocked by conflicting accounts of his whereabouts, Mrs. Akamnonu grew alarmed when family members in Arondizuogu claimed he had left for Aba, yet he never arrived home.
“It has been over a month, and my husband is still missing. I am traumatised and fear for his life. He is a man of high moral standing and has no history of conflict with anyone. If anyone is holding him, I beg them to release him alive,” the distraught wife pleaded.
Her legal representative, Arinzechukwu Nwaudo of A.O. Nwaudo & Co. Law Chambers, confirmed that petitions have been filed with both the Imo State Police Command and the DSS, citing suspicions of foul play, including possible abduction. He expressed confidence in law enforcement agencies to unravel the mystery surrounding the pastor’s disappearance.
The Imo State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, acknowledged receipt of the petition, confirming that Commissioner Danjuma had assigned a team to launch an extensive investigation. He reassured the public of the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring justice is served.
