Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has backed Arsenal’s push to sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta is believed to be eyeing a new striker this summer, after failing to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January.

It has become a priority for Arteta, especially with both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to become free agents and leave the Emirates.

Ferdinand believes Jesus would hit the ground running if he was given regular playing time at Arsenal.

“You speak to players about him, they appreciate him because he puts a good workload in, he has got quality.

“I think if he plays consistently in a team like Arsenal, I think he gets you goals.

“By the way, [Eddie] Nketiah at the weekend [against Manchester United] I thought was brilliant. Held up the ball well, brought others into the game,” Ferdinand said on Vibe with Five.
