Gov.Hope yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), led by the Interim Administrator/ Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr. Effiong Akwa.
The gov. stated that for over 15 years roads have been commissioned for development purposes but work never went on for some reasons.
“For over fifteen years, some road projects in Imo State were awarded by the Commission but for security reasons and other related challenges with the Communities, the Contractors were forced out of site. The State Government, therefore, deemed it necessary to partner with NDDC in the construction of these roads”
Further speaking, the gov assured that the work will be done as soon as possible and will therefore implore the services of the state ministry of works.
“For quality assurance and timely delivery, there shall be a joint Technical Team of Engineers from NDDC and Imo State Ministry of Works, who would work closely with the Consultants and the Contractors”
In the MoU, the Imo State Government commits to a counterpart funding with NDDC for these projects vis-a-vis: Avu-Etekwuru-Ohaji/Egbema Road; Umudi-Nkwerre Road, and the Ulakwo-Imerienwe-Ozuzu-Etchie Road.
Gov. Uzodinma said work has started in earnest in some places while in some places, mobilization to the sites will commence soon and implored the residents of these communities to be of help.
“With the engagement of Local Contractors, as approved by the NDDC, the Avu-Etekwuru-Ohaji/Egbema Road construction has begun in earnest. Subsequently, contractors will be mobilized to the other sites”
While thankful to Mr. President, the Minister and Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the governor anticipates improved economic activities across the State upon completion of these roads. I, therefore, implore citizens and residents of the concerned communities, to offer support to the contractors for the speedy delivery of these projects
