Super Eagles of Nigeria captain, Ahmed Musa has stated the team’s desire is to win back the love of fans after failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Nigeria failed to secure a place in Qatar 2022 after losing on away goal to the Black Stars of Ghana in March.

Nigeria also suffered early elimination from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The loss resulted in the sack of Austin Eguavoen and the subsequent hire of Jose Peseiro.

The Super Eagles have lost their first two matches under Peseiro – Mexico and Ecuador, despite playing attacking football.

Turkey based Musa believes the players must improve on their performance to win back the support of the fans.

” The last game we played here in Abuja was very sad for everyone especially for me it was a very tough moment, there’s nothing we can do because that’s football, in football sometimes you win or lose,” Musa told a press conference on Wednesday.

“Now we are here for the qualifier against Sierra Leone and everyone in camp is ready to make Nigeria proud once again.

“We know that no one care about the Eagles because of the World Cup disappointment, but we just have to keep pushing and make the fans believe that the Eagles can rise again and I believe we will make Nigeria proud,” Musa stated.

The Super Eagles will play the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in a 2023 Africa Cup of qualifier at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Thursday, June 9.
