The House of Representatives has urged the federal government to set in motion the process to disarm armed groups in the southeast.
The House also asked the federal government to address underlining factors causing the unrest in the region.
These resolutions were reached after the adoption of a motion moved by Dozie Nwankwo.
While moving the motion, Nwankwo said the just concluded political primaries further exacerbated the unrest in the region.
He added that despite the efforts by the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, the unrest in Anambra State has taken a turn for the worse.
“The recently concluded Party primaries further exposed the polity to the activities of the miscreants who terrorize the region, striking at will and retreating unchallenged.”
Following the motion, the House urged the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the rescue mission of Anambra State by extending financial support and other strategic logistics to enable the adequately contain the wave of insecurity in the State.
It also mandated the Committees on information and technology to liaise with the Ministry of Information & Culture and National Orientation Agency to embark on public awareness campaigns and sensitization exercises and report back to the House within 3 weeks.
