Festus Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Labour and Employment, on Monday defended Bola Tinubu, Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over his decision to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 presidential election.

Recall that Tinubu, on Sunday, announced Senator Kashim Shettima as his Vice Presidential candidate.

The decision has since stirred reactions from some Nigerians who alleged injustice to other religions and tribes.

Tinubu has, however, said that he chose Shettima because the former Borno State Governor is competent and will bring the best governance to Nigerians irrespective of religion or tribe.

Writing on his Twitter page on Monday, Keyamo rubbished the claims saying the Government doesn’t exist to assuage the egos of religious leaders.

”Government doesn’t exist to assuage the egos of religious leaders but to bring about development for everyone. Today, most religious leaders in Nigeria go to Dubai and the USA for shopping & holidays when the UAE is being governed by Muslims & the USA is being governed by Christians.

”There’s no country in the world where history tells us that its development was as a result of ‘balanced’ presidential tickets (in terms of religion) over the years; countries developed as a result of visionary leadership and not because they pandered to some religious sentiments.”
