Angry residents of Green Villa Road in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, rescued a victim from a phone thief at gunpoint.

However, the mob set ablaze the suspect before the police arrived at the scene.

Bayelsa Police Command on Thursday warned residents against taking the law into their hands.

The warning followed the lynching of a suspected phone thief by a mob in Yenagoa on Wednesday.

Condemning the act, police spokesman in the state , SP Asinim Butswat, advised residents to stop taking the law into their hands.

“The Bayelsa Police Command condemned the mob action on a suspected robber at Green Villa, Biogbolo area of Bayelsa state.

“The angry mob chased the suspect, beat him up and burnt him to death before the arrival our arrival,” Butswat said.

He noted that the response team got to the scene at a later time when the suspect had been burnt to death.

He urged members of the public to refrain from taking the laws into their hands.
