Mr Kolo Yusuf, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, has assured the citizens of the state of a peaceful 2023 general elections.

The Police Commissioner is also the state Chairman, Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES). He made the pledge on Tuesday in Gusau at the ceremony of the 2023 general elections signing of the peace accord by political parties in the state.

According to him, the meeting was aimed at stimulating healthy interaction and mutual discussion on matters relating to the security and overall conduct of the February 2023 general elections among the various political parties.

The Commissioner of Police, who chaired the session, explained that various security agencies made up the ICCES and is an ad hoc committee of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) meant to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

He assured, “All the security agencies in the state are working together to ensure effective deployment and management during the elections.”

He added that all quasi-security outfits during campaigns/rallies and other electoral processes are banned and warned that the use of firearms and other offences weapons also remained prohibited in the state.

Prof. Saeed Babura, the Electoral Commissioner, in his remarks, enjoined the political parties to ensure maximum support and cooperation to INEC, the security agencies, and other stakeholders towards realising the set objective of peaceful elections.

All the political parties and other stakeholders pledged the readiness of the state to abide by the peace agreement signed during the event to have orderliness before, during, and after the elections.
