A coalition of Christian groups has expressed displeasure over the way the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is handling its internal crisis involving the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

The Coalition made its displeasure known during its National Executive meeting in Abuja to discuss “The Role of Christians in Politics and Security Management ahead of 2023 General Elections”.

The Coalition and Church groups said the next Nigerian leader must be able to bring solutions to the endemic corruption, lack of transparency in government, abject poverty hitting Nigerians across the country, absence of free and fair elections, massive unemployment and lack of respect to the rule of law which has become the order of the day.

In the executive meeting attended by leaders and representatives of fifteen para-church organisations, issues bordering on political participation, integrity, security management and nation-building were raised.

The Coalition vehemently kicked against the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress and warned against the use of religion in campaigns by some politicians in the country.

“We saw PDP as an alternative because APC sealed its house against the Nigeria Christians already. Unfortunately, the way PDP is handling our leader and brother, Governor Wike and his team [Five Governors all Christians] is sending a negative signal to us, we can’t pretend anymore. Isaiah 61;8 ‘For I the LORD love justice; I hate robbery and wrong; I will faithfully give them their recompense and I will make an everlasting covenant with them’.

“The Coalition resolves to call a larger meeting in the next few days to take a definite position on our preferred candidate and to encourage each group to organize an enlightenment programme, creating awareness ahead of the elections.
