The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reassured residents of Abuja of safety, encouraging them to install Close-Circuit Television (CCTV).

A statement Monday night by the Director of Information, Muhammad Sule appealed to the people to remain calm.

Sule cited the advisory issued by some Embassies warning their citizens to avoid public places in the nation’s capital.

The spokesperson said the FCT Executive Committee (EXCO) deliberated the arrangements to sustain law and order in Abuja.

The committee noted that though the advisory had generated tensions, fear, and panic, security agencies are combing different areas to fish out criminals.

The FCTA said before now, law enforcement agencies had upscaled surveillance through their personnel to ward off any security breach.

The meeting urged residents to cooperate with the government by volunteering useful and timely information to the police and others.

“The Committee enjoined residents to install Close-Circuit Television (CCTV) in public places and buildings, to complement efforts by government”, Sule stated.

The EXCO noted that the first phase of the joint security operation by G-7, the states contiguous to the FCT, recorded success, including the arrest of bandits and rescue of kidnapped victims.

Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola, represented the Minister, Muhammad Bello. Also in attendance were Chief of Staff to the Minister, Bashir Mai-Borno, Secretaries of Mandate Secretariats, AMMC Coordinator, among others.

The FCTA last week distributed 60 operational vehicles fitted with the state-of-the-art equipment to security agencies.
