The leader of the pan-Yoruba Afenifere sociopolitical organization, Ayo Adebanjo, has chastised Igbo billionaires for failing to financially support Labor Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi.
He said this during a speech Wednesday in Lagos State in celebration of the life and times of the late Ohanaeze Ndigbo Global President, Professor George Obiozor.
Adebanjo said there would be no Nigeria if Peter Obi was not elected to power on February 25.
According to the former politician, voting for Peter Obi is still the best option for the country, as his candidacy is fair, just, and honest, and is in compliance with the agreement that binds Nigeria. He said Obiozor died as Nigerians struggled to save the country from years of oppression.
“Forget Nigeria if you don’t vote for Obi.” “I’m not bragging, and it’s not a threat,” he said.
Adebanjo added:
“Today, I don’t like people who talk about a peacefully reunified Nigeria without supporting action.” Many, even among the Igbo, talk about a unified Nigeria for their own selfish interests; Obiozor is not one of them. Obiozor is a renowned scholar, an outstanding ambassador, an internationally renowned intellectual, and a skilled and distinguished Nigerian. When it comes to the people who have brought this country recognition and respect, it’s impossible not to mention George; he is one of our proudest. He shouldn’t have left now because we’re in the middle of a big battle. Unfortunately, the Igbo people did not financially support Obi.
“I challenge you openly; you did not provide Obi with financial support.” Those of us who support him are the poor. I know you guys are billionaires. It’s time to spend your money for a good cause. Obi does not suffer financial loss for this reason when he has friends. It’s a shame, and it’s one of the reasons I miss Obiozor, a courageous person. “A man would call a spade a spade; very diplomatic, brave, and outstanding in character.” “I hope there will be many more in the Igbo land who will contribute to Obi’s struggle to keep Nigeria a united nation in peace.”
