The Labour Party’s leadership has refuted the suspension of its National Chairman, Julius Abure, by the executive members of his ward in Edo State.

In a statement on Friday, Farouk Umar, National Secretary of LP, said the alleged suspension is illegal and cannot stand.

Recall that the suspension of Abure was announced by the executives of his Arue ward 03 in Esan North East Local Council of Edo state on Friday.

The ward executives led by Martins Osigbemhe said Abure’s suspension from the party at the ward level comes due to forgery and anti-party activities.

But according to the party’s constitution, only the National Convention could suspend the national chairperson, and this must be through a convention called for the suspension.

He said the suspension was the handiwork of opposition parties to distract the leadership of the Labour Party, which is in Court seeking to reclaim presidential, governorship, senate and House Representatives mandates stolen during the general elections.

“Again, our Party’s Constitution clearly defines who can suspend and who cannot suspend the National Chairman. They should go and read the party constitution.
