The imo state police command on friday diclosed that a luxurious bus convenying members of the Lords chosen church, has killed pedestrians along owerri capital of imo state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Henry Okoye, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri, while reacting to the fatal motor accident involving the luxurious bus and a tipper.

In what led to the motor accident, the Police in a preliminary investigation said: “Following a distress call received from a concerned citizen on 19/04/2024 at about 08:20hrs that a fatal motor accident occurred between a lorry and the Lord’s Chosen luxurious bus at Ogbaku along Onitsha express road, operatives of Ogbaku Divisional Headquarters and the State Traffic Department swiftly dispatched to the scene and assisted in evacuating the victims to Uchenna Hospital Irete for treatment, where the medical doctor on duty confirmed four (4) dead, while the remaining victims are responding to treatment.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the lorry with registration number ABU 157 YX, with the driver currently at large, came out from Orogwe Market Road and joined Owerri-Onitsha Express Road without proper observation. This made the Lord’s Chosen Luxurious bus which was coming from Onitsha direction to collide with the tipper from the rear and veered into the gutter, destroying some shops along the road and hitting three pedestrians.

“Meanwhile, photographs and sketches of the accident scene have been taken while the bodies of the victims have been deposited at the Ossy mortuary for preservation and the accidental vehicles cleared off the road for free flow of traffic. Effort is intensified to contact the families of the victims and apprehend the driver of the Truck at large.”

“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma while expressing concern over the avoidable tragic incident, has tasked the State Traffic Officers to carry out a thorough investigation of the accident and urged road users in the State to always exercise caution when plying the highway. He advised them to observe the speed limit, avoid overloading and recklessness which are the major causes of most motor accidents.

“CP Aboki Danjuma commensurate with the families, friends, and relatives of the deceased. He prayed for the repose of their souls and wished the injured victims a quick recovery,” he said.
