In a proactive move to combat the proliferation of illicit firearms, the Imo State Police Command has apprehended a suspect for unlawful possession of a locally made pistol.

During an intelligence-led raid on a criminal hideout located at No 1 Chidiobi Street, Site and Services, World Bank Layout, operatives of the Command’s Narcotics Unit arrested a 31-year-old man identified as Micheal Uzondu, hailing from Amimo in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State. The raid also led to the recovery of one locally made pistol and suspected hard drugs in Uzondu’s possession.

Upon interrogation, Uzondu confessed to purchasing the pistol from a gun-runner in Ugirike, Ikeduru LGA, with intentions to use it for personal protection. An investigation into the matter is currently underway, with efforts focused on apprehending both the dealers and manufacturers of locally-made firearms. Uzondu will be arraigned in court upon the completion of a comprehensive investigation.

CP Danjuma urged Imolites to provide actionable information to assist law enforcement in their efforts to enhance safety and wellbeing across the state.
