Patrick Atayi, the father of Margaret Oyibo Atayi, a young woman from Benue who was found dead in Abuja, has described her death as a mystery. Margaret, a mother of two, was reported missing by her family days before her body was discovered.

Contrary to reports suggesting that Margaret committed suicide due to a failed marriage, her father, in an exclusive interview with Newsmen at the family home on Wednesday, stated that the family has not yet determined the circumstances surrounding her death.

“All I know is that presently, the family is bereaved. We cannot make a categorical statement yet until an investigation is carried out to reveal exactly what happened. At the moment, we don’t know what really happened. But when an investigation is concluded, the family can make a definite statement,” Atayi said.

Margaret, who was 27 years old, left behind two children. The family is still trying to understand the events that led to her death, which remains a mystery to them. Atayi expressed concerns about the various narratives circulating in the media, describing them as “imaginative journalism.”

When asked if Margaret’s death was a suicide or a murder, Atayi reiterated, “As I told you earlier, at present, one cannot make a categorical statement on what happened until an investigation is concluded because a murder case cannot be ruled out.

“But by the time the relevant authorities look into the matter and present their report to the family, then the family can make a categorical statement on what happened. But for now, we are not ruling out any possibility. It could be murder or suicide.”

The family awaits the results of the investigation to understand the true cause of Margaret’s death.
