The Niger State Police have launched an investigation into the deaths of two students from the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, whose bodies were found in their lodge at the Kobbo area of Bida on Sunday.

The deceased students are suspected to have died from food poisoning.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) SP Wasiu Abiodun reported that upon receiving information about the incident, the DPO of B Division, Bida, led a team of officers to the scene. They forced open the door and found the lifeless bodies of Oladapo Yusuf Olaitan, a 28-year-old from Osun State, and Aisha Abubakar, a 22-year-old from Lagos Street, Minna.

“On June 8, 2024, at approximately 15:30 hours, we received information that two lifeless bodies of Federal Poly, Bida students were found in their lodge at ‘D’ Aliyu House, Kobbo, Bida,” Abiodun stated.

Leftover food and some tablets were discovered at the scene and taken for medical analysis. There were no signs of struggle or marks of violence on the bodies. The corpses were transported to FMC Bida for autopsy.

The incident remains under investigation, according to the police spokesman.
