In Anambra State, three separate road crashes between Monday and Tuesday claimed the lives of four people and left eleven others injured. All three incidents occurred along the Onitsha-Awka Expressway, but at different locations.

The first accident took place around 6:41 pm on Monday at Ukpo junction. One person died and five others were injured. Eyewitnesses attributed the crash to wrongful overtaking. The driver of a commercial Toyota Delica bus, attempting to overtake another vehicle, collided with an oncoming private Toyota Diana. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) acting Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe, confirmed the crash involved six adults, including three men and three women.

Early Tuesday morning, another accident occurred at Obenetiti Awkuzu on the same expressway. This crash involved a Mack tanker and a commercial Toyota Diana. The tanker, reportedly suffering brake failure, collided with the Toyota, killing two unidentified female passengers and injuring five others. Onabe noted that the victims’ bodies were taken to the morgue, and the injured were provided medical attention.

The injured were taken to Chira Hospital, where one was declared dead.
