In Niger State, tragedy struck when a mining pit collapsed at Bazakwoi village in the Adnun community, resulting in three fatalities and one injury.

Alhaji Abdullahi Baba-Arah, Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), confirmed the incident, stating that it involved local miners engaged in unauthorized mining activities.

“The agency received a report of a mining pit collapse at Bazakwoi in Adnun community, which occurred on Thursday. Unfortunately, three individuals lost their lives, while one person was rescued alive but with injuries,” he said.

Baba-Arah clarified that no one else was trapped in the pit. This incident follows closely after another mining pit collapse in Galkogo community just a week prior, where one person died and 14 others remain trapped.

The community and authorities continue to grapple with the challenges posed by unauthorized mining activities, highlighting the risks and consequences associated with such endeavors.
