The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of Onyejekwe Izuchukwu, a businessman whose body was discovered in a hotel room in Ikoyi.
Izuchukwu, a 62-year-old resident of Texas, USA, had returned to Nigeria for business purposes. He checked into the Ikoyi hotel on June 6, 2024, but was found dead three days later on June 9. According to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity, a hotel cleaner found Izuchukwu’s lifeless body while attempting to clean the room. The hotel management, through its Chief Security Officer, promptly notified the police.
The source explained, “He was a guest who checked in on June 6 and was discovered dead in his room on June 9 at around 7 pm by a cleaner. The hotel’s Assistant Chief Security Officer reported the incident to the police, and a doctor was called to confirm the death.”
Before his untimely death, Izuchukwu had served as the President of Bits and Drilling Tools, a division of Schlumberger. He was known for leading the development of advanced drilling technologies aimed at reducing costs and improving efficiency in the oil and gas sector.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the commencement of an investigation. “Izuchukwu was found lifeless on the floor of the hotel room. A doctor confirmed his death, and his body has been sent to a morgue in Ikeja for autopsy. The command has started an investigation into the case,” Hundeyin said.
